Weatherization is the process of modifying a home or building to be more energy efficient and reduce energy consumption. This is accomplished by sealing air leaks, installing insulation, optimizing heating and cooling systems, and replacing inefficient windows and doors with energy-efficient equivalents. When installations are complete, the home becomes more efficient by maintaining a consistent indoor temperature while reducing the amount of energy required to do so. The benefits of weatherization are threefold: comfortability year-round, reduce heating and cooling bills, and improve environmental impacts!
Costs associated with sealing and insulating attic over livable spaces, blower door testing and air leakage sealing, and sealing and insulating rim or band joists are eligible for an incentive up to $2,500. If insulating exterior walls in addition to at least one of the following: floors over basement, knee-walls, ceiling under unconditioned overhang, crawl space, or garage ceiling under conditional spaces are insulated, this can qualify for an enhanced incentive of up to $2,500, bringing the total eligible incentive level to $5,000.
To receive a rebate for weatherization measures, you must utilize natural gas delivered by National Fuel for space heating needs. You cannot receive multiple incentives for the same weatherization measures from NYSERDA or other System Benefit Charge-funded New York State electric utilities. All weatherization measures must be installed using a licensed contractor or a contractor that can supply you with a Federal ID Number, a Certificate of Insurance, or a Business Certificate.
